Project description

Located by the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul, the SupperClub has an interior created by Dutch architect Concrete that is simply stunning, where sparse lighting, glazing and color are controlled to dramatic effect.

After trying out the idea for three months last year, the owners of Supperclub gave their lounge a permanent base in Istanbul, near the Bosphorus Bridge, making it the latest in a chain of establishments in San Francisco, Amsterdam and Rome.

The design concept, developed by Dutch architect Concrete, begins outside on a black, wooden deck with contrasting white tables and chairs in the centre and large day beds along either side. The opposite side features an outdoor bar with the dramatic backdrop of a tattooed man, highlighted by spotlight wall washers.

The interior can be seen from the deck via full height glazing connecting the internal and external spaces. As patrons move inside, they encounter another bar. Both its countertop and a storage unit on the brushed steel back wall are covered in pure white tiles. Beverages are displayed in cubic recesses topped by mirror balls.

Spotlights run on tracks around the perimeter of the venue, as do flowing white, lace curtains. These are lit from below and colorful forms are projected on to them, as DJs and VJs play. A circular, red velvet sofa breaks up the monochrome palette. It is placed between the tiled bar and a long row of white sofas. Adding movement to the space, the further into the interior the eye is taken, the higher the seating or lounge beds get, as steps (both stairs and beds) lead to the uppermost level. From there, it is possible to survey the club, curled up around small dining tables balanced on the cushions.
